1650's,
Groote
Constantia
(Greater
Constantia)
was
originally
established
as
a
vast
expanse
of
vineyards.
Covering
an
area
described
by
van
der
Stel
as
"Amsterdam
plus
one
morgan",
the
farms
in
the
area
produced
a
sweet
wine
favoured
by
European
nobility.
Even
Napoleon
was
said
to
have
taken
a
liking
to
the
Constantia
produce.
